Company Profile
We are a Family owned and operated corporation, having roots that originated with a business formed in the early 1960s. The company, "Charter Engineering, Inc.", was developed by two brothers Glenn and Charles Cyphert. Both men spent many years working for local coal mining operations and related industries, in management and supervisory capacities, before deciding to organize their own company. They formed a service business for the coal mining industry, to provide an alternative to having equipment repairs performed by the original manufacturers (OEM).
Francis Engineering, Inc., formed in 1984 by the second generation of Cypherts, carries on their tradition of providing services at lower cost than OEM, without sacrificing quality. Since then, we have diversified and expanded our operation to cover most areas related to the mining and tunneling industry.
